The last American president to fully recognize the threat posed to our freedoms, nay, our society, was Ronald Reagan. He knew what lurked out in the woods, and it wasn’t cuddly.
Some ivory tower academics think he was indicting the Soviet Union, or gun control, or even environmentalism. Don’t intellectualize it (besides, I think we all know that Reagan – rest his evil soul – wouldn’t have intellectualized anything…). But the only way he could get past the pro-bear media was to make them THINK that it was a clever allegory…
Let’s look at the words:
There is a bear in the woods. For some people the bear is easy to see. Others don’t see it at all. Some people say the bear is tame. Others say it’s vicious and dangerous. Since no one can really be sure who is right, isn’t it smart to be as strong as the bear? If there is a bear….
Of course, there was a bear. You see it at the end of the ad. It’s not a bear market. It’s not foreign countries. It’s a bear.
A bear.
Let’s look at recent Republican developments, to see the paucity of a good candidate. Who just won South Carolina? John ‘Bear Lover’ McCain. McCain would legalize bears, set up some sort of bear amnesty, loosen our bear control fences. Next thing you know, you’d go to the zoo, and wow – there’d be bears wandering around. Heaven forbid we hurt their feelings. Just because they’re not citizens of the zoo, why, look at my bleeding heart.
The only other non-religious candidate, Guiliani, would be too busy rambling on about 9/11 to give two shits about bears, although a seperate post here will have to reveal how the 9/11 Truth Movement is simply a cover for the real truth – NO BEARS WENT TO WORK IN THE WORLD TRADE CENTER ON 9/11. Don’t believe me? There weren’t any bears on Wall Street that day. BUT NOW ITS A BEAR MARKET? Why? Did the Bulls go to work that day?

[...] So what is the bear about? Is it about the pro-gun lobby, supporting the rights of hunters? Is it about the dangers posed by a changing environment? Or is this a reference to the Soviet Union? Despite Reagan’s portrayal of the Soviet Union as an evil empire, Reagan eventually collaborated with Mikhail Gorbachev to begin the downsizing of both countries’ nuclear arsenals. Was it really about the bear market? [...]
